约翰·霍克斯（1925-1998），美国著名先锋派和后现代主义作家，美国艺术文学院院士，古根海姆学者奖（1962）、埃特兰格尔奖（1973）和法国美第斯奖（1986）得主。1925年，约翰·霍克斯出生于康涅狄格州，1943年由柏丽高中进入哈佛大学，1949年获得艺术学学士学位，期间曾出版诗集《堕落的庄园》。由哈佛毕业后，霍克斯分别任教于哈佛大学、斯坦福大学和布朗大学。 约翰·霍克斯是一位多产的作家，他一生创作了十八部小说，其中包括《血橙》、《食人者》、《疾速旅程》、《激情的画者》和《血与皮肤的幽默》等，1966年他还创作了戏剧《无辜群》。
